Armed Forces Day 2018 took place on Saturday 30th of June. The Mayor of Ealing, Cllr Tejinder Singh Dhami, personally invited St Benedict’s School CCF to bring a marching contingent to the Ealing parade, the principal annual event to celebrate the Armed Forces in the Borough. They formed a marching body with their fellow cadets from 193 Southall ACF, 342 Ealing & Brentford ATC and 203 Brentford ACF. Our School Staff Instructor (SSI) Dmr Sadiq led the joint Ealing cadet contingent, marching directly behind soldiers from 562 Tpt Sqn RLC and the Mayor himself. The parade was kept in step by the beating drums and marches of the British Imperial Band.

Our very own cadet Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Trinity Yau was presented with a Deputy Lieutenant’s certificate. The chairman of the Royal British Legion – Ealing branch – Roy Reynolds, read out Trinity’s citation as she smartly marched up the steps to collect her certificate.

With the traffic brought to a halt by the police, the parade made its way through Ealing High Street, past the Broadway and hailed at the Town Hall with the cadets appropriately giving an ‘eyes left’ as they passed the War Memorial. The crowds were dotted with familiar faces; members of the community recognised our cadets and shouts of “St Benedict’s!” could be heard over the clapping and cheering.

Under her direction the contingent has had the best retention rate in recent times. The cadets respect her and she directs her team of NCOs effectively and efficiently. She turns out for every event and parade, and represents the CCF on formal occasions at school and the community. She sets the tone for the entire Contingent.

Her Majesty’s representative to Ealing, Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki CBE DL, stood on the steps of the Town Hall ready to present the best cadets in the borough with his certificate for outstanding service. We had the great opportunity of representing CCF in front of our Ealing community.

Commenting on the parade Cadet L/Cpl Emily Green said: “It was unifying to see the armed forces community of Ealing together to celebrate in honour of those who serve.”

Cadet L/Cpl Mucko added: “We had the great opportunity of representing CCF in front of our Ealing community. We also had the honour of cheering on RSM Trinity Yau as she picked up her honours. The day was a great way to celebrate our troops all around the world and to give them the respect they so greatly deserve.”
