The Summer Concert 2024
Soloists, choirs and ensembles performed at the Summer Concert, which was a wonderful evening of music and a celebration of St Benedict's Upper 6th musicians in their final term at the school.
The Summer Concert is traditionally a platform for the talents of the Upper 6th leavers, who give their final musical performance at St Benedict’s. Students from Year 7 upwards delivered a rich and varied programme of music, featuring many of St Benedict’s musical ensembles, including powerful and accomplished performances from the Orchestra, String Group, Sixth Form Percussion and Wind Band, as well as some truly uplifting performances from The Big Band and Jazz Bands.
The audience was captivated by the exceptional musical and vocal talents of our students, which filled the hall with exhilarating harmonies.
Some of the excellent vocal music on the programme included The PAFTIES (close harmony group) choir who sang a selection of a cappella arrangements, and the various choirs (girls’, concert and consort) with their wonderfully powerful and harmonious vocals.
Other Upper Sixth solo performances on the evening were:
‘So Big,So Small’ by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, sung by Kyra N (U6)
‘You’ll Be Back’ by Lin-Manuel Miranda sung by Mark M (U6)
‘Requiebros’ by Gaspar Cassado, played by Ned W (U6 - Cello)
'Hit the Ground Running' by Gordon Goodwin, played by Sebastian Z (U6 - Drums)
'Fantasie Impromptu Op.66' by Chopin, played by Arsalan S (U6 - Piano)
'Verborgenheit' by Hugo Wolf Sung by Angus M (U6)
'Mr Brightside' by The Killers played by Ayodenu D (U6 - Drums)
At the end of the concert, the Sixth Form leavers thanked the Director of Music, the Assistant Director of Music and all the music teachers and the music administrators for all their support and encouragement at St Benedict's.
Director of Music, Mr Eastwood concluded:
"Thank you for joining us for tonight’s Summer Concert. We are hugely grateful to our Upper 6th musicians for their involvement in and contribution to the school's musical life over several years. As teachers, we have watched their development from young musicians to the mature, thoughtful young adults that we see here this evening. Their hard work and commitment has been an example to all of our younger musicians, and they have enthusiastically embraced all the opportunities presented to them over the years."
