French Day began with a delicious breakfast of croissants before Science lessons focused on the work of Louis Pasteur: the children learned about his vital discovery of vaccination, and the diseases he helped to eradicate, with a question-and-answer  ‘Hot Seating’ activity to boost their learning. (All great preparation for the work they will do on microbes next year.)

They then learned about the French artist, Georges Braque, and created their very own Cubist self-portraits.

After this, it was time for some French cookery, kindly led by one of our parents, Monsieur Parmentier, who taught the children how to make traditional French ‘Quatre Quarts’ cakes.

After a game of Boules and Petanque at playtime, everyone went to the senior school ICT suite to have a go at making French comic strips.

All in all, French Day was a brilliant way to learn about the French culture and language!
