St Benedict's Day 2022

On March 21st the whole school celebrated St Benedict’s Day once again after two years. The whole school focused on our Benedictine values and ethos, and raised £6,422  for local, national and international charities; this year we supported the Lily Foundation (which fights mitochondrial disease), Downhurst Residential Home, and the Foundation of Goodness, which helps rural communities in Sri Lanka.

Creating a 120th Anniversary time capsule

At the beginning of the day, the whole school came together for mass, celebrated by Bishop John Sherrington. The Consort Choir sang Caesar Franck’s Panis Angelicus and the Junior Choir sang Mozart’s Laudate Dominum (soloist: George M). In his homily, Bishop John spoke about the practical wisdom of St Benedict, which helps us to lives of fulfilment and balance.

Older students then paired up with younger ones to create a St Benedict’s 120th anniversary time capsule for 2052; everyone focused on school life as it is now, writing letters, sketching and creating video diaries for future students.

On a perfect spring day, everyone enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch before the fundraising began; each form ran different activities, from karaoke, Krazy Kahoot and climbing to face painting, dodge ball and mocktails.
