As St Benedict’s School enters a new chapter with the introduction of football to its sports programme, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Daniel Matsuzaka as the first Head of Football for the school.

Mr Matsuzaka, who will start in September 2024, brings with him a wealth of hands-on experience both teaching and playing football at a professional level for several national clubs, including Southend Utd, Weymouth and Oxford City, as well as internationally, for Japan U19s. He currently plays for Hendon FC and is a PE teacher at Durston House School.

On his vision for the newly created role, Mr Matsuzaka says:

I am honoured and thrilled to be joining the esteemed community at St. Benedict's School. With its rich history in sports, I am eager to introduce football to the school by using my unique methodology and am committed to establishing a football programme that not only enhances the school's sports offering, but one that also leaves a lasting impact. I look forward to working collaboratively with both staff and students to create a programme that truly embodies the values and excellence of St Benedict's.

Daniel Matsuzaka

Speaking about the recent appointment, Joe Smith, Headmaster at St Benedict’s School states:

The interview panel were unanimous in our selection of Daniel as our preferred candidate; he impressed hugely in his practical session, and at interview presented a compelling and exciting vision for the development of football at St Benedict's over the next few years, as well as a strong affinity with our school values and culture.

Joe Smith, headmaster

We look forward to welcoming Mr Matsuzaka to St Benedict’s in the new academic year.
