St Benedict's Fencers Celebrate Outstanding National and International Success
St Benedict's fencers have rounded off an exceptional season with a series of outstanding performances at national and international competitions, demonstrating the strength and depth of the School's thriving fencing programme.
At the British Open National Championships, our students achieved impressive results across multiple age groups. In the U14 Championships, Rory M won silver in the epée competition, while Marcus L secured an excellent seventh place in Foil.
In the Senior British Open National Championships (Plate), Oscar C-R claimed silver in the epée event.
Rory continued his remarkable run of form by winning gold at the National Circuit Elite Épée competition, held at Moulton College on 27 June, adding another prestigious title to his growing list of achievements.
Meanwhile, Ernest O in Year 7 finished in an outstanding third place at the U12 GB LPJS Cup in Hendon, the national final of the country's leading youth fencing league.
St Benedict's success has also extended onto the international stage. Year 8 student, Marcus L, proudly represented Great Britain at the U14 European Circuit event in Bulgaria. Competing against more than 100 fencers from countries including Romania, Turkey, Germany, Singapore, Luxembourg, Ukraine, the USA and the host nation, Bulgaria, Marcus finished as the highest-placed British competitor, reaching the final before narrowly losing 15–8 to Romania's Rares Popescu to claim an outstanding silver medal.
These achievements reflect the dedication and commitment of our student-athletes, whose hard work continues to see St Benedict's recognised as one of the country's leading school fencing programmes.
