Scholastica Education - Duke of Edinburgh

An Exciting Opportunity: Undertake Your Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award with Scholastica Education at St Benedict’s

Scholastica Education, an exciting new initiative from St Benedict’s School, is dedicated to supporting home-educating families in Ealing and the surrounding area. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to offer home-educated students the opportunity to undertake their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award with us this year.

We recognise that accessing structured enrichment programmes can be a challenge for home-educating families, and we are keen to provide young people with the chance to develop essential skills, resilience, and independence through this prestigious award.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is made up of four key sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and the Expedition. Through Scholastica Education at St Benedict’s, we are able to offer guidance and structured support to ensure that students can successfully complete each part of their award.

  • Volunteering: We will help students find suitable volunteering opportunities, offering connections with local charities and community organisations so that they can gain meaningful experience in giving back to society. Our team will provide support in finding placements that align with students’ interests and availability.
  • Physical: Students will have access to sports and physical activity options, with guidance on how to meet the requirements for this section. Whether they are already engaged in a sport or looking for new ways to develop their fitness, we will help ensure that their chosen activity meets the criteria for the award.
  • Skills: We will offer guidance on selecting and developing a skill, from learning a musical instrument to improving coding skills or mastering a craft. Students will receive structured support to track progress and meet the necessary goals.
  • Expedition: Led by Linda Brown, an experienced Duke of Edinburgh coordinator who previously oversaw the scheme for the entire borough, our team will provide comprehensive training, preparation, and supervision for the expedition. This will include guidance on navigation, teamwork, outdoor survival skills, and ensuring that students meet all safety and planning requirements for their final assessed expedition.

Scholastica Education is committed to ensuring that home-educated students have access to high-quality opportunities and recognised qualifications that enhance their learning and personal development. This initiative allows students to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award while benefiting from the structured support and expertise of St Benedict’s School.
