Health and Safety at the Summer Club

Health and Safety

First Aid trained staff will be on site at all times and the Activities Director and Club Co-ordinator are both Level 3 Safeguarding qualified.

We will keep a record of all accidents, stating the action that was taken and the first-aid administered. We will inform you of any accident and first aid administered to your child at the end of each day unless it is deemed necessary to contact you at an earlier point.

Good hygiene

Across the Club, we will practice good hygiene including regular handwashing and the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach. The Club Director and/or Co-ordinator will be responsible for responding to any illness during the Club.

Enhanced cleaning

St Benedict’s has an in-house cleaning team who have been fully trained in enhanced cleaning to ensure all areas are safe. Club staff will take care to regularly wipe down and disinfect surfaces and touchpoints and will provide hand sanitiser for children throughout the day.

If your child is unwell

Children, adults and staff should not attend the Club if they are unwell.

If a child is unwell and cannot attend days that have been paid for, we can offer to move their days to a later date if possible. Please contact the Club Co-ordinator to make arrangements.

Risk Assessments

All internal activities are risk-assessed. All external providers are DBS checked, have public liability insurance and are risk-assessed.

Health and Safety Policy

We are committed to the highest standards of health and safety for children, parents, visitors and ourselves.

In order to ensure this, we will: Conduct a risk assessment daily and review it regularly for each activity or– at least once a year or more frequently where the need arises. The risk assessment will cover outdoor and indoor spaces, furniture, equipment and toys. A record will be maintained of areas which have been checked. The following areas will be considered when a risk assessment takes place:

  • Boundaries and gates keep closed and locked at all times.
  • Hazardous substances and equipment to be kept out of children’s reach.
  • Electricity securely sealed.
  • Regular gas checks.
  • Floors safe to use.
  • Maintain hygiene, cleanliness and minimise the risk of infection.
  • Outings and trips will be prepared for with assessments and checks beforehand
  • Regular checks of toys, furniture and equipment..
  • Ensure fire regulations are adhered to including regular fire drills.
  • We check outdoor space daily before children are allowed to go outside.
  • We ensure that all children are supervised by adults at all times according to the child/adult ratio.
  • We maintain a system for children’s arrivals and departures to ensure children’s safety and make sure all who collect children are aware of this system.
  • Ensure adults do not have hot drinks in the rooms where children are present.
  • Maintain a correctly stocked first aid box.
  • Ensure insurance policies are relevant and up to date.
  • Ensure plants in our garden within children’s reach shouldn’t be poisonous or very prickly.
  • Children are encouraged to wash hands before eating and after using toilet, playing in garden etc.
