The number of A*/A grades achieved by students at St Benedict’s is up again this year, at 61.2%. 87.9% of exams were graded A*-B.

The Headmaster of St Benedict’s, Andrew Johnson, said:

“The award of A level grades this year has been a very stressful and difficult process for our students, anxious to see that their hard work over almost two years is rewarded with a fair and proper set of results.

“Happily, A level candidates at St Benedict’s have done extremely well and have received some very pleasing results indeed: almost all of them are beginning courses at their first-choice university this September. This is no more than these students deserve as they are extremely able and have worked hard.

“While the outcome has been positive for the vast majority of our students, the level of stress, complexity and uncertainty in this process has made it a very difficult time for them. I am grateful to them, their parents and their teachers for the patience and forbearance they have shown throughout.”

St Benedict’s has provided support for students’ mental health throughout lockdown, with tutors offering careful and thoughtful guidance to their tutees online.

Following the government’s decision to cancel A level exams, St Benedict’s offered an innovative programme of pre-university study to all its year 13 students, with 1-1 tutorials and seminars, preparing them for their chosen undergraduate courses.
