Transition Year 6 to 7 (Senior)

The induction process at St Benedict's has developed over the past two years to incorporate three days of activities for children who are starting their secondary education with us. The first two days are a dedicated project which involves lessons in all subjects with a theme of the Olympic Games. The move from key stage 2 to key stage 3 is a big change in many ways and often the differences in teaching are considerable. These two days give the students the opportunity to experience teaching and learning at key stage 3, whilst making new friends and enjoying themselves at their new school. At the end of the two days the children will present their 'Olympic Bid' to their fellow students and staff. The third induction day will focus on the study skills required to succeed at St Benedict's. The ability to organize our work is an important aspect of life in secondary schools. Through their prep diary and the use of our virtual learning environment 'Bernard', the students will cover the methods we use to develop independence and self reliance. These three days are seen as a very important aspect of the transition year and will help the students settle in to their new surroundings.
