Sociology (Senior - Academic Currriculum)

Sociology attempts to explain and understand forces and influences that shape the society of which we are members. Though as an academic discipline it belongs to the social sciences, it is also human science, for it enables us to understand 'the way the system works' so that we may develop the critical awareness necessary for being good members of society and to bring our ethical perspective into sharper focus, should we wish to do so.

This subject is offered at AS and A Levels. For AS the following topics are studied: Families and Households, Education and Sociological Methods. For A2 the topics are Religion, Crime and Deviance and Theory and Methods.

Sociology involves much hard work and disciplined study. These qualities are essential if any useful discussion, analysis or evaluation is to be undertaken in accordance with the requirements of the syllabus. Study of this kind brings its own reward - a real understanding of society in all its aspects.
