The aim of Religious Education in St Benedict’s School is to foster the religious and moral formation of pupils in accordance with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as found in the teaching of the Catholic Church and to do this in a manner informed by the Benedictine spirit. The hope is that this will enable pupils to see themselves as free persons of infinite worth, made in God’s image, to love others and to grow into being good citizens, working towards the common good. The GCSE course consists of two broad areas: the first concerns moral issues, from a Catholic perspective, and the second deals mainly with the Creed and Sacraments. The AS and A Level courses give the opportunity to study moral philosophy and to apply both it and Christian ethics to environmental, medical and business problems. The New Testament is studied in considerable depth. This includes a particular emphasis on the Gospel of John. |
