Mathematics (Senior - Academic Curriculum)

Mathematics is at the heart of much human activity in trying to understand and shape the world. It is also intrinsically beautiful and fascinating. Guided by these thoughts, we try to provide a mathematics culture both in and out of lessons so that pupils can understand and be stimulated by mathematics at their appropriate level. Teaching involves a variety of methods including group work, puzzles and interactive activities using electronic whiteboards. There are two ‘Maths Surgeries’ every week for those who need help and Pi Club and Puzzle Club meet weekly. A weekly puzzle and a monthly puzzle with a prize are set and we enter the UK Maths Challenges at all levels. More able mathematicians take Additional Maths alongside GCSE Maths. Mathematics is a popular subject at AS and A2 and many students are involved in Maths Forum and attend various organised lectures. During the annual Maths Week there are many activities and competitions.
