On entry to the School, each boy is assigned to a house - Barlow (partnered with More House in the Junior School), Gervase (partnered with Gregory), Pickering (partnered with Bede) or Roberts (partnered with Fisher). These houses are named after the Benedictine martyrs St Ambrose Barlow, Blessed George Gervase, Blessed Thomas Pickering and St John Roberts. Merits and demerits lead to the gaining or loss of house points, and points are also available for involvement and achievement in sport, music and other areas of the School’s very full and varied co-curricular programme. In addition regular house competitions are held leading to the award of points to the winning house. Recently there have been house tournaments in rugby, football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton and cross-country. From the Upper 4th (Year 9) onwards House Captains are appointed in each division, while in Form 3 and Lower 4th (Years 7 and 8) there are house representatives. In addition House Colours are awarded from the Upper 4th for outstanding overall contribution to the life of the school. At the end of the year the best achievers in the winning house in each division are rewarded with a day out, often to Thorpe Park. In addition the House Cup is awarded to the overall winning house. Points totals are published on a weekly basis. |
