Government and Politics (Senior - Academic Curriculum)

An A Level in Politics is highly prized by employers and universities and, in the past three years, half of all students going from St Benedict’s to Oxford or Cambridge have studied Politics in the Sixth Form. Knowledge of how the political system of a country operates and the philosophies that have shaped it are an indispensable part of the general education of anyone, not least since it enables people to properly fulfil their roles as citizens.

The study of Politics at St Benedict’s has afforded students the opportunity to work with an MP for a week, to visit Parliament, the Foreign Office and 10 Downing Street as well as hearing from the many guest speakers who come to speak to Politics students. In recent years, these have included Professor the Lord Norton of Louth, Neil (now Lord) Kinnock, Ann Widdecombe MP, Iain Duncan Smith MP and Professor Peter Hennessy.
