The long-established Combined Cadet Force is open to boys and girls from the Upper 4th (Year 9) and above. The CCF provides its participants with excellent opportunities to develop self-discipline, organization and presentational skills and skills appropriate to working within a team. Ultimately, if participants show the required aptitude, there are opportunities to develop leadership skills and go on to regular command. We are very proud to wear the Cap Badge of the Royal Engineers and have good links with Gibraltar Barracks and other Royal Engineers units and bases. Each term, the CCF takes part in a field weekend. In the summer we attend a central camp for a week to take part in more detailed training and activities. These can be quite challenging but invariably rewarding. Recent camps have been at Chickerall near Weymouth, Crowborough in Kent and a marvellous camp at Longmore.

Regular activities and training include drill (of course), weapons handling, first aid, sentry duties, field craft, camouflage and concealment, patrolling, principles of marksmanship, mountaineering, orienteering and many, many more. One of the most challenging and yet most popular is the Assault Course, now often called the Obstacle and Confidence Course. Recently, the CCF acquired 3 more brand new Air Rifles and cadets can now practise on site, using 3 newly constructed practice ranges. If you wish to find out more contact Capt. Finch (the OC) for further details. |
