The Careers department offers a range of advice and guidance to students from Upper 4th to Upper 6th (Years 9-13) so that they can ultimately secure a place in higher education and gives them experiences and skills to enter the world of work and commit to lifelong learning. The department is committed to impartial guidance, delivered in a professional capacity enabling every student to fulfil their potential; encouraged and supported throughout the decision process. All Upper 4th students are guided through the GCSE choices and again at Upper 5th (Year 11) offered individual interviews to support AS plans. Advice on CV writing and job interviews is integrated into the PSHCE programme in the Upper 5th. All year groups from 3rd Form (Year 7) upwards are invited to the bi-annual Careers Fair and specialist Careers evenings (for example a Medicine careers evening). Role models and key-note speakers are invited during term time to talk about their careers. Preparation for university entry includes the Centigrade questionnaire before Easter in the Lower 6th (Year 12) and continues with university visits and taster courses during the summer term after AS examinations. A parents' UCAS information evening in June includes a briefing about Oxbridge entry. Students receive help with Personal Statements and practice interviews are offered to every student when required. During the final year, a parents' evening explains the Finance system as well as preparation for the early days of leaving home and life at university. During August all students are supported to obtain the University place of their choice or given advice on the alternatives. |
