Key Stage 32006-7 saw extensive development and restructuring to merge the Art and Technology departments to form a new ADT Department. The ADT department offers a curriculum that builds upon the successes of the Art Department by extending the range of creative experiences we offer the students on a rotation of classes every term between the following three disciplines: Art (Fine): Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking Design (Graphic): Computer aided design, packaging, illustration Technology: Product and 3D Design, including some resistant materials As well as teaching the students new practical skills, our curriculum also develops the students ability to appreciate and analyse the work of other artists, designers and crafts people from a range of different times and cultures. To support the students' learning in lessons the department offers an extensive range of extra-curricular clubs after school and at lunchtime for which students are invited to attend to continue with class work or undertake their own Art projects. |
Key Stage 4 & 5The ADT Department offers endorsed Art & Design courses in Fine Art, Graphic Design and 3D Studies at GCSE with the opportunity to continue these through to A Level. This route enables students to explore their artistic strengths and build a portfolio that displays both quality and originality. Work produced for this qualification will demonstrate the student’s ability to give visual form to individual thoughts, feelings, observations and ideas. Students will show evidence of trying to extend their own and others’ ways of seeing the world. The disciplines offered at St Benedict’s on the endorsed courses are: FINE ART: Painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. THREE-DIMENSIONAL STUDIES: Product design, interior design and jewellery design GRAPHIC DESIGN: Advertising, illustration, packaging, typography and multimedia. The results at GCSE and A Level are very good and have led to the majority of A Level students making successful applications to some of the best Art & Design Colleges in the country, such as Central St Martins and Kingston. |
