GCSE RESULTS 2017
This year has seen a significant improvement in GCSE results at St Benedict’s, with an increase in the number of A /A* grades to 57.6% - up 6.4% from last year.
Performance in the new style GCSEs in English Language, English Literature and Mathematics has also been strong: in the new 9-1 grading system, pupils achieved 9-7 grades in 43.3% of papers. This equates approximately to A*/A grades in the old system and represents an 8.1% improvement on last year’s results in these subjects.
A number of pupils achieved particularly impressive results: Cerys Edwards and Max Lubowiecki were among just 2000 pupils nationally to achieve grade 9s in all 3 of the reformed GCSE subjects (Maths, English Lit and Lang); they also achieved straight A* grades in all their other subjects. Fourteen students achieved straight A*/A grades, including 9-7 in Maths and English.

This year, students at St Benedict’s gained 70.7% A*-B grades at A level, and 36.1% gained A*-A.
Fifteen students gained straight A grades, including Alvin Lee, whose 4 A*s secure his place at Imperial College, London University, to read Computer Science. Former Head Boy, Matt Carr, gained 3 A*s. Luca Lota’s 3 A*s secured his place at Durham to read Physics, and Ben Ainslie was awarded A*AA, to read Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College.
