Science is taught throughout the school from Nursery to Form 2 (Year 6). It is a very practical subject and the pupils are keen to learn. In the Pre-Preps (Reception and Years 1 and 2) and Nursery the class teachers lead the lessons co-ordinated by the Head of Science. In the Junior School it consists of a two hour block per week taught in the Science Room. There is a review of previous work at the beginning of the lesson, followed by experiments which are usually written up for homework. Web sites, CD-ROMs, videos, DVDs are all used to make the lessons as exciting and interesting as possible. There is also the opportunity for project work in Upper Prep and Form 1 (Years 4 and 5) related to the topics covered for example Micro-organisms, the Solar System and Bridges. Science Week is the highlight of the year. We have shows, workshops, outside visitors for the whole school and of course 'The Great Egg Race'!! All children have the opportunity to enter a vehicle and break as many eggs as possible! Great fun! |
