PSHCE (Junior - Academic Curriculum)

PSHCE is central to education in the Junior School and permeates all aspects of school life. Although taught as a separate subject, it is also encompassed within the teaching of all other subjects.

Our aim is to enable the children to understand

  • what a healthy lifestyle is,
  • how to be safe,
  • how to develop good relationships,
  • the importance of having respect for others,
  • how to accept responsibility,
  • the importance of being active and positive members of the community,
  • how to develop self-confidence
  • how to make informed choices

In this way the children are suitably equipped to achieve the five aims of 'Every Child Matters'.

The curriculum is supported by the SEAL ( Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) programme as well as 'Badger.' The schemes of work are primarily determined by the SEAL programme and include topics which permeate both KS1 and KS2. This is extended through a Study Skills programme in Forms1 and 2 (Years 5 and 6).

The whole PHSCE programme has been developed by Junior and Senior School teachers in order to build on topics fruitfully from year to year.
