Physical Education (Junior - Academic Curriculum)

Within the Physical Education curriculum our children follow programmes of study in gymnastics, basketball, uni-hoc, soft tennis and football; these activities are run over half-termly blocks. The variety of activity, in PE and Games, develops the children’s core skills of hand-eye co-ordination as well as a basic understanding of personal health and fitness. All Physical Education lessons are timetabled in our large Sports Hall. These activities are supported by a number of after school hobbies. A comprehensive co-curricular programme offers activities including athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, fencing, ju-jitsu, karate, netball, rounders, rugby, swimming and volleyball.

The Junior School has, over a number of years, developed a strong reputation in rugby, cricket, cross-country running and swimming across all age groups. Rugby and cricket are the core winter and summer sports for boys, with fencing available as a year round option. For girls the major sports are netball, swimming, rounders, fencing and athletics. Regular weekly fixtures are played against some of the most prominent schools in and around London. In addition to these fixtures there is a strong Inter-House competition in all the activities mentioned. Tours are currently being planned for the netball and rugby teams.

Our children in Years 3 and 4 participate in a double Games lesson each week, as well as one Physical Education lesson. The children in Years 5 and 6 spend two afternoons per week at our playing fields in Perivale, as well as participating in a Physical Education lesson.

We encourage each individual child to fully express and develop his or her sporting abilities and talents.
