Music (Junior - Academic Curriculum)

The music in the Junior School is largely based on performance. In the school life of a typical child from reception to Form 2 (Year 6), he or she would participate in approximately 25 school performances. This would be regardless of ability or aptitude, but individual excellence would be maximised at every stage. The music at Assembly and Mass is also a high priority and an effort is made to produce good singing at these weekly and daily events. In the classroom the children aim at being musically literate through the recorder and singing. Creativity in music is important and the children all compose music for performance to their parents from Pre-Prep 2 to Form 2 (Year 1 to Year 6).

Music at St Benedicts

The majority of our pupils play musical instruments, many play two or even more and, at the time of writing, 85% of the children learn instruments in the Junior School. We have a School Orchestra which plays a wide repertoire, two percussion groups (one specialising in Orchestral Percussion), two clarinet groups, a brass group, a violin group, a guitar group and three choirs for different age groups. We have very well qualified, dedicated and inspiring teachers of brass, piano, harp, clarinet, saxophone, flute, violin, cello, guitar, percussion and voice.
