Mathematics (Junior - Academic Curriculum)

Children are encouraged to actively make sense of phenomena, exercise their powers and develop their emerging skills. We remain current with the latest research and developments and offer an enriched curriculum where children derive real pleasure from their learning of mathematics. We believe that happy, confident, active learners make the best of their potential. The innovative use of ICT, collaborative work, investigation and problem solving are given a high priority in daily mathematics lessons.

We participate enthusiastically in national and local challenges and events. There are also regular internal opportunities for maths outside the classroom, including Maths Medicine challenges and digital MathsPhoto competitions. A maths hobby is available as a co-curricular activity to children from Lower Prep to Form Two. Maths hobby activities have included visiting the theatre, enjoying guest presentations, fund-raising events and trialling new maths computer software and internet resources. Maths Week is a popular annual event, usually run to coincide with the NSPCC's Number Day fundraising. In recent years this has included Game Tournaments, Maths Hat Parades, Treasure Hunts and outdoor maths activities, to mention only a few highlights.
