English (Junior - Academic Curriculum)

English is an integral part of the curriculum. The children learn to enjoy reading a variety of books and to develop a good understanding of the text. Our Library is well resourced with books, magazines and games and the children flock in there during breaks and lessons to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere. Writing for a purpose and an audience inspires the children to write creatively and with enthusiasm.

The children are encouraged to speak confidently and listen carefully beginning with "Show and Tell" in the Nursery and culminating in a formal presentation at the end of Form 2 (Year 6).

We celebrate Literature and Language throughout the year with special events such as workshops, visiting authors and theatre companies. We also have competitions, performance reading and shared reading amongst different age groups, including Senior School students. Our recent whole school read was enjoyed by staff and children alike who reclined on favourite cushions and engrossed themselves in a book.
